On Morale
Morale describes the necessary endurance, preserverance, discipline, and positive outlook required for an army to endure the stresses of combat and regular marching. Although somewhat related, is not an indicator of troop happiness. A veteran unit may complain of the hardships of campaigning -- but are cohesive and bulwark in the field, facing myriad arrows without fail. On the other hand, a commander which provides and cares for the troops excessively might find them weak and spoiled, and flee at the sight of the enemy. Thus, the greatest influence of morale upon troops is their behavior during combat, determining how fiercely the individual soldier fights against the opposing force, and how much they are willing to flee when the situation is against them. Morale will of course furthermore influence the marching ability of the unit, as unmotivated troops run slowly, and will need to take more breaks than necessary, forcing the main force to wait for them to catch up.  When sufficiently severe, a force low on morale will experience desertions. There are influences on morale which are very direct; The charismatic commander who wins every battle can provide extraordinary support for the morale of his or her unit. Other sources of morale include plentiful supplies, ready payments, care for troop welfare, and prudence in the choice of travel. Other factors are not as obvious -- especially those relevant to team cohesion. For example, in a concentrated, elite, unit, everyone will fight against superior forces without complaint, as cowardice and valor are noticed by the rest of the group. In contrast, a large army may see problems with internal cohesion, as the commander is by necessity more distant from the troop, being unable to handle complaints and conflicts as effectively as with a small group. However by this point there is a more difficult problem to handle, that being the existence of abhumans. It cannot be denied on the Fayan mainland, many adventurers and armies have returned with tales of encountering strange creatures unyielding to pain, capable of sustaining grevious wounds and yet still fighting as if it never occurred.They have the appearances of man, but do not believe them to be so, for they know not what fear is. But the elite and the royal courts of Faya deny the existence of such creatures, believing them to be tall tales and pranks pulled out of boredom, and these tales are thus relegated to the tavern table; regardless, their denial does not mean such things do not exist. Economy
The townships and villages of Faya, for necessity and for luxury, need a massive variety of goods. Food is the foundation of any people. Grains are the primary produce of Faya, but meat, fish, and dairy products such as cream and cheese provide a quick source for necessary fats and proteins.The preservation of such foodstuffs require as complex of a process as its acquisition, and thus salt is in great demand around most of Faya. Another basic component of human survival are garments: thick woolen textiles for the cold, light linen for the sun, and silk and velvet for those who can afford such luxury. Additional materials such as iron, ceramics, and leather are indispensable to the economy and daily life, and implements of war such as weapons, armor, and horses enjoy a wide range of customers. The majority of agricultural products originate from the viillage, while artisans in the city produce more complex manufactured goods such as textiles and tools. Similarly, raw materials are extracted from a variety of sources and by a variety of trades. Thus the key to wealth lies in commerce -- not only between the village and townships, but between townships as well. Wherever commerce flows, commodities are used and consumed, and contentment arises from the fulfillment of the residents' needs and wants, attracting immigrants. A positive feedback loop of growth thus emerges, and the region will produce more, consume more, and most importantly provide more taxes for its lord. Wherever commerce stagnates, emmigration of the population, tradesmen included, occurs, for it is natural to seek greener pastures, and this further degrades production. Thus, it is in the ruling elite's interest to protect trade routes from the ravages of war and banditry. But a shrewd merchant is always looking for isolated and impoverished areas, as he or she may profit immensely from the difference in prices. As villagers are always exporting their produce to the markets in the city, there is little activity in the village market, and villagers are usually spendthrifts. Proper merchants practice their trade inside the walls of the township, although when necessary they may resupply in villages. If you wish to know what factors are influencing the prosperity of a township or region, ask the mayor of the township and he will inform you. Other useful information can be collected from pedestrians, even if they are unaware of much outside of their profession.

The History of Faya
When the mainland was in chaos, before any historical record and the dragon calendar, a hero was born in (Derhak),  and forged in fire and sword in the central region the first unified dynasty --- the Imperial Eagles. The kingdom's steeds soon marched south and recoverd the (Greid) peaks in the north and the nomadic steppe tribes of the south, creating a hegemony which dominated all of the Fayan Mainland, and cultural admixture began at that moment of conquest. After centuries of bitter conflict peace finally falls upon the battered land, and the scent of the grains in autumn harvest or the birdsong in spring returns to the land uninterrupted the first time in centuries.The people naturally venerated the hero-emperor as a god, and he, (Nabis Leon), became a lasting legend, earning his perennial mark upon the annals of Fayan history. After a while, no one knows how long this dynasty ruled, and life under extended contentment leads to a kind of complacency that is slow and lethal. By Dragon Age (D.A) 236, the decay of imperial sovereignty leads to the wavering of control over its increasingly ambitious fiefdoms, and the Emperor in every meeting sits and listens in fear and impotence to the excuses the lords and magistrates make for bolstering their already considerable forces. Meanwhile the Holy (Neria)n Church, founded near the same time of the Empire's creation, has grown to become completely detached from central authority, effectively becoming a nation within a nation. The head priest's temporal authority, largely free from any central intervention and backed by a "holy" army of considerable size, extends to all of the (Terelan) Mountains. But this failure in central government does not lead to a descent into civil war, and the Empire was at this time was unusually silent, even as the population struggles to survive under the exploitation of regional lords. Finally, what broke the Empire's hundred-year silence was not itself, but another disturbance --- the campaigns of another empire. D.A 242, fleets belonging to the Empire of St.(Velia) land near the eastern coasts, and tore through the Imperial defense, beginning a rapid invasion into the mainland and cutting down the once-formidable armies of the Imperial Eagle like a scythe through reed. Instead of forming a unified front in the face of such a crisis, the lords are emboldened by the change of events and further devoted themselves to the deception and scheming, and the disorganized response of the Dynasty further bolstered (Velian) morale. In the brief span of two years the Imperial Eagle has lost most of its territory, with the (Neria)n Church state suffering the worst of the fighting, seeing the total ruination of their holy city and the transformation of the entire mountain range into a veritable hellscape; surviving believers and holy troops were thus forced to seek refuge in the (Paradise), the Dynastic capital. A year later, the Count (Aulian) comes forward with news of a massive force of unknown allegiance emerging from the desert, ready to invade; Yet his pleas for aid, by design of the local nobles, were intercepted, and without reinforcements, the entire region was forced into a hopeless campaign. Finally, the faith of Count (Aulian) in the Dynasty, whom he and his ancestors sworn to protect, was broken, and he sacrificed some of his territory to secure his forces, permitting acess of the (Watleuan) expeditionary forces to the the Imperial Eagle's core territories. D.A 245, the (Aulian) Republic declares independence. Just as the iron boot of the (Velian) Empire begins its march into the Dynastic heartland, Count (Greid) of the (Greid) republic declares independence by leveraging ethnic tensions, forming the (Greid) Kingdom, crowning himself as king. Meanwhile as the Dynasty collapses on all fronts, the local populace, bitter and resentful of life under constant repression, rises in arms in revolt, leaving their bloody mark on the decline of the Imperial Eagle Dynasty. The rebellions along the southern coast necessitated a diversion in the already limited forces of the Dynasty, thus allowing (Velian) menace to loom ever closer to the capital. Meanwhile the (Wateluan) force, trampling along the Dynastic heartland, was unexpectely intercepted by the long-retired general (Agucos) and suffered heavy casualties, and the (Wateluan) marshal recieves news of regime change; the Wise King has organized various tribal confederations to usurp the throne. A change in strategy is necessary, and the marshal, (Barentalus) is forced to establish a new state in former (Aulian) territory, forming the New (Wateluan) Kingdom.

The History of Faya, Part 2

On the autumn of D.A. 246, the old Emperor and most of the Dynastic court, without apparent cause, died a sudden death inside the ramparts of (Paradise), and the young marshal, (Auland), under the support of the Master of the Knightly Order "Judgement"  (Torransi Saiton), quickly inherited the Imperial Throne, and instituted his iron-fisted rule with great swiftness. Under (Auland)'s ruthless rule, the Eagle Dynasty miraculously repelled the Imperial invasion, securing a legendary victory in the siege of (Paradise), turning the tide of war. The failure of this decisive battle forced the (Velian) Empire to withdraw, and (Auland) personally lead the pursuit against the retreating forces. The final victory was secured suprisingly quickly; in the decisive battle for Fort (Kadela) count (Tajik) singlehandedly chaged into enemy ranks, slaying the enemy marshal, forcing the (Velian) force, who once were able to fell armies of the Dynasty like reed, into a total rout. D.A. 247, the rebels at (Tirica)n coast triumphed over the Dynastic subjugation forces, and conquered the surrounding territories, crowning a Queen to rule over the newly-formed (Tirica)n Kingdom. (Auland) was thus forced to abandon pursuit of the retreating Imperials to secure the domestic front, giving some life to a Dynasty teetering on collapse. Meanwhile, (Tirica)n fleets manage to destroy the (Velian) expeditionary fleet, permanently severing (Velia)'s means of retreat. Without their fleet and the expertise to rebuild a fleet of such sophistication and size, the (Velian)s were forced to establish government at the (Terelan) region. The balance of forces of a newly fragmented Faya leads again to chaos, until D.A. 264......

The Imperial Eagle Dynasty --The Glory of Old Paradise, Ruled By A Fist of Iron.
At the center of the Fayan mainland lies the oldest nation in recorded history. It was, until recently, the sole sovereign power in all of Faya, who fell to its own hubris as its rule continued unrivaled for centuries. There is thus a sense of superiority among the Imperial Eagles, naturally stemming from the near-inconcievable grandeur that once was. Humility was only again regarded as a virtue during the worst phases of the war, where the Imperial Eagle Dynasty was teetering on collapse, and the descent of its population into submission seemingly inevitable. Due to its once immense size, the natural course of government was that of traditional feudalism. As the decadence and ambitions of the local lords was largely responsible for the Dynasty's decline, Emperor (Aulian) rapidly centralized its government upon his ascension to the throne. The knightly class consists of most of the nobility, and as nobles were conscriptd into the army under the new regime, the bulk of the Dynasty's calvary consists of knights. ^The Imperial Eagle system of knighthood distinguishes between military knights and civil knights, with the military knight being landless nobles or meritorious commoners, with both devoid of any political authority. The Dynasty's arsenals are required to produce and distribute a standardized set of equipment to those knights, and are lead by reasonably competent generals to the field.

If you are new to this module, there are major changes to most aspects of the game system, and so please read the below changes:^1: Companion stat and equipment managment is moved to the camp menu. ^2: Free adventurers are unable to recruit from villages and towns, and the "(Saipa)" lance system is used instead, and only the ruler of a "(Saipa)" or settlement can train and recruit troops. It is furthermore necessary to build barracks inside castles to enable recruitment.^3: Key plot information can be found in the main camp menu. ^4: Intel and news is core to Faya's mechanics and plotline, and reading them is highly recommended. ^5: Faya currently has no main questline, and even if there was one, it can be safely ignored. Side quests require certain conditions for activation, and with the era progress mechanic in place, some side quests can only be begun and completed in a certain time period. These side quests can be safely ignored as well. ^6: There will be endings to Faya, and one cannot continue to play if ending conditions are met unlike in native.
